What is Bags of Help?
Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge. www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp
Christchurch Junior School has been selected for the shortlist in our region! This means we will be granted at least £8,000. However, we can achieve more if we receive enough votes from shoppers in local Tesco stores.
What is our project?
Our plan is to transform some of the muddy areas at the back of school. These areas, previously laid to lawn, are now in need of a face lift so that the children can enjoy them to the full.
We will transform these areas into a place for children to gather, play and relax; the ground would be covered with artificial grass with hexagonal benches (locally sourced and made from recycled plastic) set around the two trees. Large planters stocked with sensory plants would define the edges of the area. It would be an eco-friendly, low maintenance environment.
We are confident that this new area would not only result in calmer playtimes but would also lend itself well to be used for outside learning (e.g. story or circle times).
How can you help?
