PE & Sports Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is a grant from central Government designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.
CJS has a strong PE/sporting culture. We offer a wide PE curriculum including, various sports, gymnastics, dance and swimming. Many aspects of this are taught by specialist teaching assistants and coaches. Class teachers who teach their own PE receive support and training. We judge teachers ’ levels of confidence and PE teaching expertise to be strong.
All classes are timetabled for 2 hours of PE; as well as daily fit breaks. We also offer a wide range of clubs with strong take up (well over 50% of boys and girls participation in after school clubs each term). We have taken steps to ensure that some of our least active and confident youngsters can take part in sporting activities and enjoy exercise.
The school has carried out a full audit of the impact of the Sports Premium using the Department for Education’s reporting tool (developed by the Association for Physical Education and the Youth Sport Trust).
Christchurch Junior School’s vision is that all children should receive high quality Physical Education (PE) from raising standards in teaching and learning as well as have access to an outstanding range of extra-curricular sport and physical activity opportunities. The school is proud of its successful record in local and county sporting competitions, but also of the high rate of participation in sporting activities.
Christchurch Junior School shares the government’s vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium:
ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Schools have received an additional £16,000 [plus £10 per pupil between the ages of 5-11 years old] to improve the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This funding is continuing for 2024/25. The funding has been provided to ensure impact against the following objective: "To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools".
It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:
· increasing confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sporting activities
· increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sporting activities
· raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
· offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
· increasing participation in competitive sport
